my web design origins

As a young kiddiewink, I often experimented with website and graphic design, by trying to place a group of pictures together creatively, or setting up my own free website on "Moonfruit".. I absolutely loved that name!!

As time went by and school years came and passed, I eventually had to decide on a career path. I had 2 paths that I wished to travel down. The first was dancing.. I have done some form of dancing all my life. Whether it was ballet, rhythmic gymnastics or modern dancing, the desire to move to music flowed through me since I first learned to stumble. Unfortunately, it was well-known to me that in the dancing industry you either make it or break it, with no inbetweens. As much as I get excited about working under pressure, this was a little over the top, so I decided to travel down path 2..

web and graphics

I love art and computers! So that steered me in the direction of graphic design. Not knowing exactly which field I wished to go into, I luckily found a college that offered a vast variety of graphic mediums - The Open Window Art Academy. I studied Photography, Animation, Print Design, Web and Interactive Media, Film, Fine Arts, Illustration.. I may have missed one or two here, as their range of subjects is quite vast. My top favourites were Animation, Film and Web Design, and these are all fields I still wish to explore pHenoMeNaLLy in the future!!

so how did I end up in web design?

Web design happened to be the industry I fell into first. I started off as a freelancer, creating websites for friends. During this time I also worked on a few video projects, and thoroughly enjoyed these.

Freelancing however, is tough! I decided I needed more experience in a working environment and worked for a local magazine as their in-house web designer. After this I went back to freelancing for a while, before joining JD Internet Consulting, where I have been working for the last 3 years. The amount of experience I have gained and valuable information I have learnt during this time is remarkable, and a huge thank you to JD for this!
